BEng in Construction Engineering
Course Overview
The BEng in Construction Engineering at LSCE is a three-year UK Level 6 honours degree preparing graduates for chartered-track practice in construction project engineering, contract administration and site-based delivery leadership. The syllabus is aligned with ICE, CIOB and RICS competency frameworks and taught in central London with a placement year and an industry-facing final-year capstone integrated into the programme structure from induction onwards, with part-time and accelerated routes available for eligible applicants.
By graduation you will be modelling scheme options with AutoCAD, Revit, MS Project, Primavera P6 and NEC contract templates, presenting your final-year dissertation to a review panel drawn from LSCE careers-service industry contacts, and holding a portfolio structured for graduate applications across UK employers. Assessment blends taught coursework, an industry placement year and a defended final-year dissertation, all moderated to UK Level 6 honours standards, and the placement is treated as an integral part of the award rather than an optional add-on.
Key Features
- Three-year Level 6 honours degree mapped to ICE and CIOB competency frameworks, so the credential maps cleanly to ICE expectations
- Site engineering labs covering setting out, temporary works and health and safety, supported by weekly tutor sessions on construction project engineering
- Year-two placement with a UK construction employer or main contractor, delivered against employer-facing assessment briefs
- Final-year dissertation supervised by a chartered construction professional, with structured cohort review each intake
- Guest lectures from CIOB London Region and ICE London volunteers, reinforced by named programme-tutor supervision throughout
- Alignment with NEC and JCT reference clauses used in UK contracts, moderated to the appropriate UK level standard
- Three study modes with matched lab and software provisioning, drawing on Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) specialist-group input
What You Will Learn

- Coordinate temporary works, method statements and permits to work using AutoCAD and comparable tooling
- Interpret UK Building Regulations and Construction (Design and Management) requirements against employer-facing assessment briefs
- Set out site work using total stations and coordinate control in supervised laboratory sessions
- Apply BIM to construction planning and clash detection to a standard suitable for UK employer evidence
- Administer NEC and JCT contracts through variations and payments with structured written and verbal feedback from a named tutor
- Assess construction sustainability against carbon and material metrics moderated by the programme tutor at each stage
- Communicate construction advice to clients, designers and inspectors and reviewed inside the closing capstone stage

Why Study at LSCE
LSCE is the specialist computing and engineering division of Harold International College of London. Our small tutor-visible cohorts, alignment with UK professional bodies including ICE and CIOB, and central London location put Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the Alan Turing Institute and central London's engineering consultancies within a short tube ride of every classroom. Every intake is small enough that a named programme tutor knows your progress week by week, and every route joins the same cohort with equal timetable, lab and careers-service entitlement, so a distance-learning student is not a second-class member of the intake.
London is the UK's largest engineering-and-technology employment centre, home to major software firms, defence primes, fintech clusters, transport engineering practices and the Royal Academy of Engineering, and construction project engineering is a specialism in active hiring across the capital. LSCE students routinely attend BSides London, IET Young Professionals events, the IMechE London Region programme and BCS specialist group meetings during their studies. The placement year and final-year capstone are coordinated through the LSCE careers service and drawn from a working contact book of UK graduate employers.
