Advanced Diploma in Advertising & Branding
Course Overview
The Advanced Diploma in Advertising & Branding is a Level 5 qualification within the LSCT Media, Journalism & Communication department, designed for students who already understand the basics of marketing and want to step up into senior brief-writing, account-handling and creative-strategy work. Running 12 to 15 months across on-campus, online and distance-learning routes, the course is taught from our central London base — within a short walk of agency clusters around Soho, Shoreditch and the South Bank.
You move from foundational frameworks into applied UK practice from 2026: writing creative briefs that survive a real planning meeting, defending a campaign idea against client legal review, and measuring brand lift without inflating the numbers. By the end you will leave with three pitch-ready campaign decks, a written portfolio aligned to CIPR and IPA standards, and the confidence to walk into a junior planner or account-executive interview.
Key Features
- UK-recognised Level 5 award mapped to CIPR and IPA professional development frameworks.
- Three study modes — on-campus in London, fully online with live agency-style critiques, or distance learning with structured deadlines.
- Live client brief in term two — a real UK brand sets the question, you pitch back to a panel of working planners.
- Industry placement with a Soho or Shoreditch agency, brand consultancy or in-house marketing team.
- Distinctive specialism module: Brand Storytelling for Regulated Sectors (finance, alcohol, gambling, healthcare) — the bit most courses skip.
- Portfolio review by a guest jury of senior creatives and brand directors at the end of the year.
What You Will Learn
The Advanced Diploma in Advertising & Branding is structured around six taught modules and a capstone campaign. You will graduate able to read a category report, write the brief that solves the problem, and present the work without reaching for buzzwords.
- Strategic brand planning — positioning, archetypes, brand equity and the UK consumer landscape.
- Creative brief writing — the IPA brief, alternative formats, and how to argue back from creative.
- Integrated campaign development across TV, OOH, social, search and CRM.
- Advertising regulation — ASA, CAP and BCAP codes, GDPR, and what gets a campaign pulled.
- Brand measurement — pre/post tracking, mental and physical availability, MMM basics.
- Account management — running a client relationship from kick-off to wash-up.
- Brand storytelling for regulated sectors — finance, alcohol, gambling and health.

Why Study at LSCT
The London School of Commerce and Technology (LSCT) is a specialist higher-education provider based in central London and part of Harold International College. We teach in small cohorts so every student is visible to their tutor, run a single intake schedule that students can rely on, and partner with UK professional bodies so qualifications carry weight with employers. London puts Whitehall, the City, Silicon Roundabout, the Royal Courts of Justice, the West End and the NHS estate within a short tube ride of every classroom — and our students use that proximity in their projects, placements and graduate job hunts. For advertising students that means agency tours in Soho, brand briefings in Shoreditch and pitch days judged by working planners.
