Advanced Diploma in Aviation Management
Course Overview
The Advanced Diploma in Aviation Management at the London School of Commerce and Technology (LSCT) is a 12-15 month Level 5 qualification for working aviation professionals moving into mid-senior management roles across airlines, airports, ground handling, MROs and the wider supply chain. The syllabus is shaped by IATA standards, the UK Civil Aviation Authority's expectations and the post-Brexit operational reality of UK aviation.
You will analyse a real UK airline's reporting, build a route-economics case for a new short-haul service, walk through a major safety event using a working SMS framework and present a turnaround plan for a fictional regional airport. By graduation you can hold your own in an airline planning department or an airport executive management team.
You will study in small, tutor-visible cohorts; meet visiting professionals fortnightly; and work to deadlines that mirror professional practice in the hospitality & tourism sector. The UK hospitality and tourism economy has been reshaped by post-pandemic operating models, the Brexit recalibration of workforce planning and the move towards sustainable and regenerative travel; the syllabus tracks these working realities week by week.
Key Features
- IATA and Civil Aviation Authority-aligned syllabus, with guest sessions from working airline planning directors and airport CFOs.
- Three study modes — on-campus in London, fully online with weekly live management clinics, or distance learning with structured deadlines.
- Route-economics capstone — build a launch case for a fictional new short-haul service.
- Safety Management System (SMS) module — taught using working UK aviation safety material.
- Aeronautical revenue and commercial module taught with current ACL slot data.
- Top-up route to a full Bachelor's in Aviation Management.
- Service-standards peer review — fortnightly LQA-style mystery-shop review with cohort and a named tutor.
What You Will Learn
The Advanced Diploma combines commercial discipline with safety leadership. You will graduate able to read an airline P&L, write a route case, lead an SMS review and brief a senior team on a major operational event.
- Airline economics — fleet, network and route planning.
- Airport economics — aeronautical and commercial revenue.
- Safety management systems under ICAO Annex 19.
- Aviation security under CAA and Department for Transport rules.
- Sustainability in aviation — SAF, net zero and CORSIA.
- Aviation finance — leasing, fuel hedging, working capital.
- People and crisis management in aviation.
- Capstone route-economics case.
- Operational decision-making under shift-pattern pressure and customer escalations.
- Cross-cultural service in a London international market of returning and first-time visitors.
Across every module you keep a structured working portfolio of operational reports, service-recovery notes and trading reviews — a single source of truth you can show at interview and continue to maintain after graduation. Programme assessment combines coursework, in-class exercises and a substantial practice-led piece of work assessed by a working senior manager.

Why Study at LSCT
The London School of Commerce and Technology (LSCT) is a specialist higher-education provider based in central London and part of Harold International College. We teach in small cohorts so every student is visible to their tutor, run a single intake schedule that students can rely on, and partner with UK professional bodies so qualifications carry weight with employers. London puts Whitehall, the City, Silicon Roundabout, the Royal Courts of Justice, the West End and the NHS estate within a short tube ride of every classroom. For aviation managers the IATA London office, the Royal Aeronautical Society and the airline-headquarters cluster around Heathrow are all part of the guest-speaker programme.
Our hospitality and tourism students complete operator-shadowing weeks at London hotels, restaurants, attractions and tour operators as part of the assessed coursework. Students also benefit from our partnership with Harold International College of London, with shared library access, careers-service connections and the option to take a small number of elective modules across the wider Harold International programme catalogue subject to availability.
Whichever study mode you select, you will join a single, intake-aligned cohort with weekly tutor visibility, a named programme tutor for the duration of your studies, an institutional access plan offering peer support and structured careers advice, and the full library and online-resource subscription package of Harold International College of London. Many students travel to London for two short on-campus residentials per academic year — these are optional for online learners but supported by LSCT for students who can attend.
