Advanced Diploma in Project Management
Course Overview
The Advanced Diploma in Project Management at LSCT is a Level 5 programme inside the Business & Commerce department, designed for working project managers and senior coordinators stepping up to programme-management, transformation and PMO-lead appointments. Taught from our central London base over 12 to 15 months across on-campus, online and distance-learning routes from 2026, the programme is sector-agnostic and built around the UK reality of delivering complex change inside banks, public-sector bodies, construction firms and the major UK transformation programmes.
Across the course you will move from project-management mechanics into programme leadership, benefits realisation, portfolio thinking and the harder middle-management work of running multiple delivery teams under pressure. By the end of the Advanced Diploma in Project Management you will be able to chair a programme board, write a benefits-tracking plan and walk into a senior PM or junior programme-manager interview already a credible operator.
Key Features
- UK Level 5 syllabus mapped to APM (Association for Project Management) Practitioner Qualification and PMI PMP outcomes, with PRINCE2 Practitioner content embedded.
- Sector-agnostic — students draw on UK examples from financial services, public sector, healthcare, construction and tech delivery.
- Three study modes — on-campus in central London, fully online with live programme clinics, or distance learning with structured monthly milestone deadlines.
- Live benefits-tracking exercise — students build a benefits map and tracking plan for a real-style UK transformation programme.
- Module on UK programme governance covering NAO value-for-money, Cabinet Office Major Projects Authority and the Infrastructure and Projects Authority assurance regime.
- Capstone delivery audit — students audit a real-style at-risk programme and write a board-quality recovery plan.
What You Will Learn
The Advanced Diploma in Project Management runs across six taught modules plus the capstone. You will graduate able to scope, plan, run and recover programmes across waterfall, Agile and hybrid models in any UK sector.
- Programme Management and Benefits Realisation
- Portfolio Thinking and Strategic Alignment
- Advanced Risk, Issue and Dependency Management
- Programme Governance and Steering Discipline
- Stakeholder Management for Senior PMs
- Change Management and Organisational Readiness
- UK Public Sector Programme Assurance (IPA, NAO)
- Programme Finance and Business Case Discipline
The teaching pattern is intentionally practitioner-led. Each module pairs taught content with at least one applied exercise — a real published filing, a working consulting deck, an actual board paper or a live UK regulatory question — and you are expected to read, comment and contribute. That working rhythm gives our graduates the day-one credibility UK commercial employers test at interview, and is part of why our placement and graduate-job conversion rates compare well with much larger UK providers.
Who This Course Is For
- Working project managers stepping up to senior PM, programme-manager and PMO-lead appointments.
- Advanced Diploma graduates from delivery-adjacent fields topping up to a Level 5 credential.
- Public-sector delivery staff preparing for programme leadership in the Civil Service or local authorities.
- International applicants targeting UK transformation roles requiring a recognised Level 5 credential.
Career Pathways
Graduates step into senior PM, programme-manager and PMO-lead roles across UK banks, the public sector, healthtech, construction and the major UK transformation programmes. The Advanced Diploma in Project Management is calibrated to make you ready for a programme-manager interview on graduation. Typical first roles include:
- Senior Project Manager (cross-sector)
- Junior Programme Manager
- PMO Lead
- Transformation Manager
- Change Manager (Prosci-adjacent)
- Delivery Lead (public sector or consultancy)
The Advanced Diploma articulates into the LSCT BSc in IT Project Management and the MBA in Entrepreneurship & Innovation for students wanting wider commercial leadership. Where industry placements are arranged, our placement coordinators take a hands-on role in matching students to the right host organisation, briefing the student on workplace expectations, and following up after the placement to make sure the experience converts into the references, network contacts and professional confidence that show up at interview.
You will also build the network that underpins UK commercial careers: an alumni community across the FTSE 250, the consultancies and the scale-up cluster, a working tutor team drawn from current practice, and an annual industry careers afternoon at which UK recruiters take CVs and book follow-up conversations with current students.
Entry Requirements
- A relevant Diploma (Level 4), Foundation Year, or at least two years of professional experience in a project-management or delivery-adjacent role.
- GCSE English Language at grade 4/C and Mathematics at grade 4/C (or equivalent).
- English language: IELTS 6.0 overall (no band below 5.5) for non-native English speakers.
- A short statement of intent and one academic or professional reference, ideally from a programme or project line manager.
Across the programme you build the commercial fluency UK boards now expect at every level: clean numbers, sharp written communication, defensible decisions and the ability to read a room. Guest sessions with working consultants, finance leaders and senior operators give you direct insight into how UK businesses actually run quarterly reviews, board meetings and strategic decisions under pressure.
Why Study at LSCT
The London School of Commerce and Technology (LSCT) is a specialist higher-education provider based in central London and part of Harold International College. We teach in small cohorts so every student is visible to their tutor, run a single intake schedule that students can rely on, and partner with UK professional bodies so qualifications carry weight with employers. London puts Whitehall, the City, Silicon Roundabout, the Royal Courts of Justice, the West End and the NHS estate within a short tube ride of every classroom — and our students use that proximity in their projects, placements and graduate job hunts. For project-management students that proximity is decisive: the IPA, NAO and every major UK transformation programme office sits within tube reach of our classrooms.
Our graduates work across the London commercial economy — from the Magic Circle adjacencies of the City to the SaaS clusters around Old Street, the consulting houses of the West End and the FTSE 250 head offices that span Mayfair to Paddington. LSCT's employability team keeps an annual employer map current and brokers introductions where it can, and our alumni network spans UK firms and international employers.
