Advanced Diploma in Advertising & Branding
Course Overview
The Advanced Diploma in Advertising & Branding at the London School of International Business and Management (LSIBM) is a Level 5 senior-track qualification inside the Marketing, Media & Digital Business faculty. Across 12 to 15 months it takes account managers, junior planners and brand managers from working campaign competence into agency-side senior work — brand portfolio, senior planning, integrated media leadership and pitching for new business, framed by the CIM Marketing Manifesto and current ASA CAP Code enforcement themes.
Study is on-campus in central London, fully online, or by distance learning. Content is designed around the IPA Excellence Diploma, the CIM Diploma in Professional Marketing and Marketing Society Fellow-informed practitioner reading. The capstone is a full new-business pitch — brand challenge, strategy, integrated media plan and financial model — defended in front of a working IPA Fellow who has won UK new-business in the past twelve months.
Key Features
- Designed around the IPA Excellence Diploma and CIM Diploma in Professional Marketing.
- Three study modes — central London campus, fully online, or distance learning.
- New-business pitch capstone defended in front of a working IPA Fellow.
- Brand-portfolio workshop using real UK PLC brand-house cases.
- Integrated-media leadership teaching — TV, digital, retail media, CTV.
- Structured route toward CIM Diploma in Professional Marketing, with tutor coaching on assessment.
- Portfolio-plus-pitch assessment combining the plan with a live twenty-minute pitch defence.
- Direct progression onto the LSIBM Higher Diploma in Advertising & Branding or a UK Bachelor’s top-up.
What You Will Learn
The advanced diploma is anchored around what an account director or senior planner actually delivers — the pitch that wins the account, the brand-portfolio call that unlocks growth, the integrated media plan a CMO signs off without a second version request. You will finish able to lead a small account or planning cell.
- Brand portfolio and brand-architecture leadership.
- Senior account planning and strategic brief writing.
- Integrated media leadership — TV, digital, retail media, CTV, audio.
- New-business pitching — brief, strategy, creative, media.
- Programmatic and CTV at senior level.
- Effectiveness measurement — IPA Effectiveness Awards frameworks.
- Client-relationship leadership at account-director level.
- ASA CAP Code and UK regulation at supervisor level.
- Agency finance — fee models, retainers, gross margin discipline.
- Applying the CIM Marketing Manifesto to campaign leadership.
- Writing a new-business pitch a UK CMO will award.
Who This Course Is For
- Account managers stepping up to account-director level.
- Junior planners moving into planning-director track.
- Brand managers taking on brand-portfolio responsibility.
- In-house marketing leads targeting agency-partnership work.
- Consulting seniors moving into a marketing-services practice.
Career Pathways
Graduates typically move into account-director, senior-planner, brand-director and head-of-brand roles across UK agencies, in-house teams and consultancies. The advanced diploma supports strong applications but does not by itself guarantee an offer — a defended new-business pitch is often the artefact that carries a final round. Typical destinations include:
- Advertising Executive (senior)
- Account Director (agency)
- Brand Strategist (senior)
- Creative Strategist (senior)
- Advertising Planner (senior)
- Brand Director (small employer)
- Head of Integrated Planning
The Advanced Diploma in Advertising & Branding is the natural step onto the LSIBM Higher Diploma in Advertising & Branding and IPA Excellence Diploma completion. Graduates commonly progress toward Chartered Marketer status via CIM within eighteen months.
Entry Requirements
- A relevant Diploma (Level 4), Foundation Year, or two years of substantive professional advertising, agency or brand experience.
- GCSE English Language at grade 4/C and Mathematics at grade 4/C (or equivalent).
- IELTS 6.0 overall (no band below 5.5) for non-native English speakers.
- A short statement of intent and one academic or professional reference — applicants with a professional-body membership (AAT, CIPD Foundation, CIM Associate, CMI Level 3, IPA Foundation) should mention it on application.
Why Study at LSIBM
The London School of International Business and Management (LSIBM) is a specialist business-education provider based in central London and part of Harold International College. Advanced Diploma cohorts sit in small groups so tutors track progress course by course, and every route is mapped to UK professional-body competencies — ACCA, CIMA, CIM, CIPD, CMI, CIPS, IOE&IT, CFA UK — so employers recognise the credential.
London puts the City, Canary Wharf, Whitehall, Companies House, the FCA, the Bank of England and the West End within a short tube ride of every classroom. Advanced Diploma students access a fortnightly practitioner clinic, an industry-careers day each cohort and structured application coaching in the final term.
