Advanced Diploma in Business Management
Course Overview
The Advanced Diploma in Business Management at the London School of International Business and Management (LSIBM) is a senior-track Level 5 qualification for practitioners already running teams and now stepping into function-level accountability — a senior operations manager at a UK mid-market SME, a departmental head at a corporate function, or a general manager at a multi-site business. Sitting inside the Business & Management faculty, the Advanced Diploma covers operations strategy, P&L ownership, cross-functional leadership, structured decision-making and UK governance duties.
The Advanced Diploma runs over 12 to 15 months and is available on-campus in central London, fully online, or by distance learning. Tutors are practising senior managers and CMI-chartered directors, and the closing assessment is a full function-level strategy paper for a simulated UK SME defended in front of a working practitioner. The sections below cover modules, audience and progression.
Key Features
- Curriculum reviewed against CMI Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership and ILM Level 5 content.
- Three study modes — central London campus, fully online, or distance learning — with the same tutor cohort.
- Real-world assessment: a function-level strategy paper defended in front of a working practitioner.
- Working reference to the UK Corporate Governance Code, Companies Act 2006 directors' duties and the Corporate Insolvency and Governance Act.
- Direct articulation into the LSIBM Higher Diploma or BSc top-up in Business Management.
What You Will Learn
The Advanced Diploma builds a senior manager who can run a function properly. You will finish able to own a P&L line, drive a small strategic change, structure a board note and hold your own with a chief executive under commercial pressure.
- Operations strategy — capacity, sourcing, make-vs-buy and location decisions.
- P&L ownership — cost drivers, contribution, gross and net margin.
- Financial reporting for non-finance senior managers — reading a signed set of accounts.
- Cross-functional leadership — running through marketing, finance, tech and legal.
- Strategy tools at senior level — VRIO, blue-ocean, hypothesis-driven strategy.
- Change and transformation management — Kotter, ADKAR, McKinsey 7S.
- UK governance — directors' duties, board effectiveness and the Corporate Governance Code.
- Structured decision-making — pyramid principle and executive briefing craft.
