Certificate in Leadership Skills Development
Course Overview
The Certificate in Leadership Skills Development at the London School of International Business and Management (LSIBM) is the entry-level qualification for first-time team leaders and step-up supervisors — the retail assistant manager taking on shift responsibility, the senior analyst suddenly running a two-person pod, or the technician who just picked up a small crew. Sitting inside the Human Resources & Leadership faculty, the course covers the working craft of one-to-ones, difficult conversations, delegation, feedback and simple performance management under UK employment law.
The Certificate runs over 3 to 6 months and is available on-campus in central London, fully online, or by distance learning. Tutors include working line managers drawn from CMI and ILM networks, and the closing assessment is a recorded set-piece one-to-one with a peer team member. The sections below walk through modules, audience and progression.
Key Features
- Curriculum reviewed against CMI Level 3 Award in First Line Management and ILM Level 3 Award content.
- Three study modes — central London campus, fully online, or distance learning — with the same tutor cohort.
- Real-world assessment: a recorded, marked one-to-one with a peer team member.
- Introduction to UK employment-law essentials — ACAS Code, statutory rights and disciplinary basics.
- Direct progression into the LSIBM Diploma in Leadership Studies or CMI Level 5 route.
What You Will Learn
The Certificate builds a working first-time manager — the person who can hold a proper one-to-one, delegate cleanly, give feedback that lands, and handle the awkward conversation without letting it fester. You will finish able to run a small team through a busy week and produce a light performance record that stands up in the UK workplace.
- The transition from doer to manager — what changes on day one.
- Structured one-to-ones and coaching conversations using GROW.
- Delegation frames — Situational Leadership, task/relationship matching.
- Giving feedback that lands — SBI and radical-candour patterns.
- Difficult conversations — under-performance, attitude, timekeeping.
- UK employment-law basics — ACAS Code, statutory rights, protected characteristics.
- Simple performance management, PIPs and reasonable-adjustment awareness.
- Wellbeing basics and the manager's duty of care.

We teach in small cohorts so every student is visible to their tutor, run a single intake schedule that students can rely on, and partner with UK professional bodies — CMI, CIM, CIPD, ACCA, CIMA, CFA UK, CIPS and IOE&IT — so qualifications carry weight with employers.
London puts the City, Canary Wharf, Whitehall, Companies House, the FCA, the Bank of England and the West End within a short tube ride of every classroom.
