Higher Diploma in Advertising & Branding
Course Overview
The Higher Diploma in Advertising & Branding at LSCT is a Level 5 qualification within the Media, Journalism & Communication department, designed for marketers, junior creatives and account managers ready to take on senior advertising and brand-strategy work in UK agencies and in-house teams. The programme runs 15 to 18 months across on-campus, online and distance-learning routes from 2026, and is taught from our central London base — minutes from the agency clusters of Soho, Shoreditch and Fitzrovia.
Across the year you will move from advertising and branding foundations into creative strategy, art direction, copywriting, integrated-campaign delivery and the analytics that decide whether a campaign actually moved the needle. By the end of the Higher Diploma in Advertising & Branding you will have built a multi-piece agency-ready portfolio, presented a campaign pitch to a panel of working creative directors and have the language to walk into a junior or mid-level agency interview already at home in the room.
Key Features
- UK Level 5 syllabus mapped to CIM (Chartered Institute of Marketing) and IPA (Institute of Practitioners in Advertising) early-career frameworks.
- Direct articulation into LSCT BA programmes in media, marketing and design top-ups.
- Three study modes — on-campus near Soho's agency cluster, fully online with live creative crits, or distance learning with structured monthly deliverables.
- Live agency brief — students respond to a real-style RFP from a UK brand and pitch to a panel of working creative directors.
- Module on UK ad regulation covering the ASA / CAP Code, the BCAP Code for broadcast, ICO direct-marketing guidance and PECR.
- Portfolio of campaigns — print, digital, OOH and social — ready to show at agency interview by the end of the programme.
What You Will Learn
The Higher Diploma in Advertising & Branding runs across seven modules and a capstone campaign. You will graduate able to lead a brief, craft a brand idea, run a creative team and defend the work in front of a client.
- Strategic Advertising and Brand Architecture
- Creative Strategy and Brief Writing
- Art Direction and Copywriting Fundamentals
- Integrated Campaign Planning (above, below and through the line)
- Digital and Social Advertising
- UK Advertising Regulation (ASA, CAP, BCAP, PECR)
- Account Management and Client Service
- Campaign Measurement and Effectiveness
The teaching pattern is intentionally practitioner-led. Each module pairs taught content with at least one published or broadcast piece — a real story, a real edit, a real shoot, a real campaign — and you are expected to file, edit and respond to working editors as if a publication or production schedule was about to land. That working rhythm gives our graduates the day-one credibility UK newsrooms, production companies and agencies test at interview.
Who This Course Is For
- Marketing executives moving from in-house into UK agency creative or account roles.
- Junior creatives, designers and copywriters wanting a Level 5 credential and a structured portfolio.
- Brand assistants and product marketers preparing for senior brand-management roles.
- International applicants targeting UK Skilled Worker visa-eligible agency and brand positions.
Career Pathways
Higher Diploma graduates step into the junior-to-mid agency roles across London's Soho, Shoreditch and Fitzrovia clusters and the major UK in-house brand teams. The Higher Diploma in Advertising & Branding is calibrated to make you ready for an agency interview on graduation. Typical first roles include:
- Account Executive (creative or media agency)
- Junior Copywriter (creative agency)
- Junior Art Director (creative agency)
- Brand Executive (in-house)
- Strategy Planner (junior, integrated agency)
- Social Media Manager (brand or agency)
The Higher Diploma articulates directly into the LSCT BA programmes and into the MBA in Marketing Management.
You will also build the network that underpins UK media careers: an alumni community across newsrooms, production companies, agencies and in-house creative teams, a working tutor team drawn from current practice, and an annual industry careers afternoon at which UK editors, picture desks, producers and creative directors take CVs and meet current students.
Entry Requirements
- An Advanced Diploma (Level 5), HND, Foundation Degree, or equivalent prior study in marketing, media, design or business.
- Three years' relevant work experience in marketing, design or advertising considered in lieu of academic prerequisites (mature applicants).
- English language: IELTS 6.0 overall (no band below 5.5) for non-native English speakers; portfolio or written-work sample required for this programme.
- A personal statement and one academic or professional reference, ideally from a marketing or creative line manager.
Across the programme you work inside live UK editorial standards: IPSO clauses applied to real recent complaint outcomes, Ofcom rulings dissected in seminars, NUJ contract clauses read line by line. Guest sessions with working UK reporters, picture editors, producers and creative directors keep the programme tied to the working day of the people you will be applying to join.
Why Study at LSCT
The London School of Commerce and Technology (LSCT) is a specialist higher-education provider based in central London and part of Harold International College. We teach in small cohorts so every student is visible to their tutor, run a single intake schedule that students can rely on, and partner with UK professional bodies so qualifications carry weight with employers. London puts Whitehall, the City, Silicon Roundabout, the Royal Courts of Justice, the West End and the NHS estate within a short tube ride of every classroom — and our students use that proximity in their projects, placements and graduate job hunts. For advertising students that proximity is decisive: Soho, Shoreditch and Fitzrovia host the UK's biggest concentration of creative agencies, and our crit nights draw working creative directors.
Our graduates work across the UK and international media landscape — national newspapers, regional titles, the BBC, ITN, the major UK podcast houses, digital-native publishers, the creative agencies of Soho and Shoreditch and the press offices of UK public bodies. LSCT's employability team brokers introductions and runs portfolio evenings attended by working hiring editors and creative directors.
