BSc in Business Ethics & Governance
Course Overview
If you want a UK career in company secretariat, compliance, ESG assurance or the governance advisory arms of Big Four practices, the BSc in Business Ethics & Governance at the London School of International Business and Management (LSIBM) is written for you. Sitting in the Business & Management faculty, this three-year honours degree combines applied ethics with the working documents of UK corporate governance — the UK Corporate Governance Code, Companies Act 2006 filings, and the ESG disclosure landscape shaping every UK-listed board room.
You will undertake an optional placement year with a Big Four governance advisory, an in-house company secretariat or a UK regulator, and produce a final-year dissertation on a governance question defended in front of a chartered secretary. The BSc in Business Ethics & Governance is available on-campus in central London, fully online with cohort calls scheduled across UK and APAC time zones, and by distance learning from 2026.
Key Features
- Curriculum reviewed against Chartered Governance Institute and Institute of Business Ethics competencies.
- Three study modes — central London campus, fully online with UK / APAC cohort calls, or distance learning.
- Optional placement year with a Big Four governance advisory, in-house secretariat or UK regulator.
- Live board-pack review in year two using a redacted UK-listed pack.
- Regulator visit simulation in the final year.
- Final-year dissertation defended in front of a chartered secretary.
What You Will Learn
The degree walks the student through the working perimeter of a UK corporate — from the Companies Act 2006 filing rhythm to the ESG disclosure landscape and the UK Corporate Governance Code. The wry moment: half the challenge of governance is remembering that ‘comply or explain’ means you can explain, provided you actually do.
- Applied ethics — utilitarian, deontological, virtue and stakeholder frames.
- UK company law — Companies Act 2006 and Companies House filings.
- The UK Corporate Governance Code and Listing Rules.
- Anti-Bribery, Anti-Money Laundering and Modern Slavery compliance.
- ESG disclosure — ISSB, TCFD, UK SDR.
- Board effectiveness and committee servicing.
- Whistle-blowing, speak-up culture and PIDA 1998.
- Regulatory affairs — FCA, ICO, HMRC.
- Governance in non-corporate settings — charities, public bodies.
- Dissertation.
