BSc in Business Law
Course Overview
The BSc in Business Law at the London School of International Business and Management (LSIBM) is a three-year UK honours degree inside the Business & Management faculty, written for students targeting paralegal, contracts-manager and in-house compliance careers at UK law firms and PLC in-house teams. It combines the core business curriculum with a full commercial-law specialism — English contract, company, employment, consumer, competition and data protection law.
You will complete a legal-operations placement in year two, work on a live UK contract-review project in year three, and produce a dissertation defended in front of a working in-house counsel. The BSc in Business Law is available on-campus in central London, fully online with UK / APAC cohort calls, and by distance learning from 2026.
Key Features
- Curriculum reviewed against the CILEx Level 6 syllabus, Law Society advanced paralegal competencies and Chartered Governance Institute UK & Ireland practitioner material.
- Three study modes — central London campus, fully online with UK / APAC calls, or distance learning.
- Year-two placement at a UK law firm, in-house team or company-secretarial function.
- Final-year dissertation defended in front of a working in-house counsel.
- Corporate-governance workshop aligned with the UK Corporate Governance Code.
- UK GDPR and ICO enforcement workshop using published notices.
What You Will Learn
The degree is structured around what a Level-6 paralegal or legal-operations lead actually delivers — a drafted first-pass agreement, a board pack summary, a compliance memo, a transaction workstream a solicitor can rely on. You will graduate able to work supervised at commercial-solicitor-adjacent level.
- English contract law at working advanced level.
- Commercial contracts — services agreements, licence deals, MSAs.
- Company law and directors' duties under the Companies Act 2006.
- Employment law at advanced paralegal level.
- UK GDPR at senior level.
- Competition and antitrust law.
- Consumer law and dispute resolution.
- Corporate governance under the UK Corporate Governance Code.
- Legal research methods.
- Dissertation methods and paralegal writing.
Who This Course Is For
- A-level leavers targeting graduate paralegal schemes at UK law firms.
- International students seeking a UK honours degree in English business law.
- Working contracts admins and compliance analysts moving into full paralegal roles.
- Career switchers with confident written English into legal operations.
- Mature applicants moving into UK company-secretarial roles with a portfolio.
Career Pathways
Graduates typically move into paralegal, contracts-manager, compliance and company-secretarial roles across UK law firms, in-house legal teams and mid-market corporates. The degree supports applications but does not by itself guarantee job offers or visa outcomes. Typical destinations include:
- Paralegal (commercial)
- Contracts Analyst / Contracts Manager
- Company Secretarial Assistant
- Compliance Analyst
- Legal Operations Analyst
- Governance Analyst
The BSc in Business Law is the natural step onto the CILEx Level 6 route and MSc-level UK business-law programmes.
Entry Requirements
- Three A-levels at BBC or above, or equivalent UK / international qualification (IB 28+, BTEC DMM, Access to HE, Foundation Year pass, or a relevant Higher Diploma with confirmed credit transfer) — confidence reading dense text is expected because the degree is document-heavy.
- GCSE English Language at grade 5/C and Mathematics at grade 4/C (or equivalent).
- IELTS 6.5 overall (no band below 6.0) for non-native English speakers.
- A personal statement showing genuine curiosity about commercial law. Mature applicants (21+) may enter with a portfolio and a short interview.
Why Study at LSIBM
The London School of International Business and Management (LSIBM) is a specialist business-education provider based in central London and part of Harold International College. Undergraduate cohorts sit in small groups so every student is visible to their tutor, run a single intake schedule students can rely on, and every degree route is reviewed against UK professional-body competencies — ACCA, CIMA, CIM, CIPD, CMI, CIPS, CFA UK and IOE&IT — so graduates carry a credential that City recruiters engage with.
London puts the City, Canary Wharf, Whitehall, Companies House, the FCA, the Bank of England and the West End within a short tube ride of every classroom. Undergraduate students access a fortnightly practitioner clinic, at least one industry-careers day per academic year, a structured placement route and one-to-one application coaching in the final year.
