Diploma in Leadership & Management
Course Overview
The Diploma in Leadership & Management at the London School of International Business and Management (LSIBM) is a Level 4 practitioner programme for supervisors and specialists moving into middle-management responsibility. Sitting in the Business & Management faculty, it works through the load-bearing skills of a middle manager — running a departmental budget, chairing project meetings, writing a paper for the SLT, and handling underperformance under UK employment norms.
Running nine to twelve months on-campus in central London, fully online, or by distance learning, the diploma is designed around the CMI Level 5 and ILM Level 5 competencies. Assessment mixes a management report, a video-recorded stakeholder briefing and a viva. Diploma graduates articulate directly into the LSIBM Advanced Diploma in Leadership & Strategy.
Key Features
- Curriculum aligned with the CMI Level 5 and ILM Level 5 competency frameworks.
- Three study modes — central London campus, fully online, or distance learning.
- Management report written to SLT paper standard on a real workplace problem.
- Recorded stakeholder briefing assessed on structure, tone and time management.
- Assessment mix of report, recorded briefing and viva.
- Direct articulation onto the LSIBM Advanced Diploma in Leadership & Strategy.
What You Will Learn
The diploma leaves the first-line leader material behind and tackles the harder work of a middle manager — the departmental budget, the change project, the underperformer who is also popular. Students finish with the vocabulary and the paperwork.
- Managing a departmental budget — forecasts, variances, business cases.
- Change management using Kotter and ADKAR frames in real UK cases.
- Writing an SLT paper — problem, options, recommendation.
- Chairing a project meeting to time.
- UK employment-law essentials for line managers — grievance, disciplinary, redundancy.
- Performance-management systems — objectives, calibration and reward.
- Coaching conversations using GROW and OSKAR frames.
- Introduction to strategic thinking — Porter, VRIO and the resource-based view.

Why Study at LSIBM
The London School of International Business and Management (LSIBM) is a specialist business-education provider based in central London and part of Harold International College. We teach in small cohorts so every student is visible to their tutor, run a single intake schedule that students can rely on, and partner with UK professional bodies — CMI, CIM, CIPD, ACCA, CIMA, CFA UK, CIPS and IOE&IT — so qualifications carry weight with employers.
London puts the City, Canary Wharf, Whitehall, Companies House, the FCA, the Bank of England and the West End within a short tube ride of every classroom. Diploma cohorts run structured cohort clinics with working practitioners — a Big-Four tax adviser, a CIM Fellow in marketing, a CIPD-chartered HR director — so students meet professional expectations well before graduation.
