Diploma in Leadership Studies
Course Overview
The Diploma in Leadership Studies at the London School of International Business and Management (LSIBM) is a Level 4 practitioner qualification for team leaders and step-up managers ready to move from first-line supervision into a genuine middle-management remit — running a mid-sized UK team, owning a function's OKRs, or leading a cross-functional workstream. Sitting inside the Human Resources & Leadership faculty, the Diploma covers structured leadership models, performance management, coaching, difficult-conversation practice and ethical decision-making under UK employment law.
The Diploma runs over 9 to 12 months and is available on-campus in central London, fully online, or by distance learning. Tutors are working middle managers and CMI-chartered leadership practitioners, and the closing assessment is a leadership case-study — a real workplace decision analysed and defended in front of a peer panel. The sections below cover modules, audience and progression.
Key Features
- Curriculum reviewed against CMI Level 4 Diploma in Management and Leadership and ILM Level 4 content.
- Three study modes — central London campus, fully online, or distance learning — with the same tutor cohort.
- Real-world assessment: a leadership case-study defended in front of a peer panel.
- Working reference to the ACAS Code, UK employment law and reasonable-adjustment duties.
- Direct articulation into the LSIBM Advanced Diploma or Higher Diploma in Leadership routes.
What You Will Learn
The Diploma builds a working middle manager who can structure decisions rather than muddle through them. You will finish able to run a mid-sized team through change, hold performance conversations that actually improve behaviour, and defend a leadership call to a UK exec team.
- Leadership models — situational, transformational, servant and adaptive at a working level.
- Performance management — objective-setting, calibration and evidence-based reviews.
- Coaching skills — GROW, CLEAR and the manager-as-coach conversation.
- Difficult conversations — underperformance, conflict, grievance and interpersonal reset.
- Change leadership — resistance patterns and structured adoption.
- Team dynamics — psychological safety, Tuckman stages, Lencioni dysfunctions.
- Ethical decision-making under UK employment law and the Institute of Business Ethics guidance.
- Diversity, inclusion and reasonable-adjustment obligations in day-to-day management.

Why Study at LSIBM
The London School of International Business and Management (LSIBM) is a specialist business-education provider based in central London and part of Harold International College. We teach in small cohorts so every student is visible to their tutor, run a single intake schedule that students can rely on, and partner with UK professional bodies — CMI, CIM, CIPD, ACCA, CIMA, CFA UK, CIPS and IOE&IT — so qualifications carry weight with employers.
London puts the City, Canary Wharf, Whitehall, Companies House, the FCA, the Bank of England and the West End within a short tube ride of every classroom. Diploma cohorts run structured cohort clinics with working practitioners — a Big-Four tax adviser, a CIM Fellow in marketing, a CIPD-chartered HR director — so students meet professional expectations well before graduation.
