Certificate in Special Interest Tourism

Certificate in Special Interest Tourism at HICL

Mass tourism is no longer the only growth story in the travel industry. Travellers are paying more, more often, for trips built around something they care about - a wildlife area, a food culture, a religious site, a long-distance trail, a film location. The Certificate in Special Interest Tourism gives you a working grounding in how to design, sell and run that kind of niche product.

If you've spent any time around general tourism and felt the work didn't make use of your own interests, this certificate is a way of reconnecting them. It treats specialist segments as serious commercial opportunities, not side-projects.

Special Interest Tourism as a Career Angle

Adventure operators, eco-lodges, cultural tour companies and wellness retreats all compete in fragmented, fast-moving markets. The Certificate in Special Interest Tourism looks at how those operators position their products, build itineraries, manage risk and stay sustainable. Expect to think about ethical travel, host-community relationships and the difference between marketing a destination and curating an experience.

Tour guides or travel consultants wanting to develop a niche specialism.
People in destination marketing, DMOs or visitor centres focused on a particular theme.
Career changers passionate about a specific area - diving, food, wildlife, heritage, faith travel.
Small operators planning a launch in a specialist segment.

Where Graduates Typically Go

The Certificate in Special Interest Tourism is also a useful credential for freelance guides building their own brand.
