MBA in Strategic Management
Course Overview
The MBA in Strategic Management is a postgraduate qualification within the LSCT Business & Commerce department, designed for mid-career managers and senior specialists who want to make the move from leading a function to leading an organisation. The programme runs one year full-time (two years part-time) across on-campus, online and distance-learning routes, taught from our central London base — within reach of FTSE 250 HQs, City advisory firms and a working network of UK NEDs and chairs.
From 2026 you move quickly from foundations into the strategic disciplines: reading a competitor's annual report behind their public narrative, writing a board paper that survives an audit committee, leading a transformation through cultural resistance, structuring an acquisition that creates rather than destroys value, and presenting a credible strategic plan to a chair. The MBA closes with a substantial strategic capstone — often a live sponsoring-employer engagement — and a board-simulation assessment that mirrors the kind of decision-making you will be paid to deliver next.
Key Features
- UK postgraduate qualification aligned with CMI (Chartered Management Institute) Level 7 Chartered Manager pathways and the Institute of Directors development frameworks.
- Three study modes — on-campus in London, fully online with live board-simulation clinics, or distance learning with structured deadlines.
- Sponsoring-employer capstone for working learners — a real strategic question, marked alongside a written strategic study.
- Distinctive specialism module: Board Dynamics & the UK Governance Code in Practice.
- Guest sessions with UK chairs, CEOs, NEDs and senior corporate-finance advisers.
- Site visits to FTSE 250 HQs, private-equity portfolio companies and UK scale-ups.
What You Will Learn
The MBA in Strategic Management is structured around seven modules and a strategic capstone. You will graduate able to write a five-year plan, defend it against board challenge, run a transformation through hostile conditions, and brief a chair.
- Strategy — competitive analysis, scenario planning, dynamic capabilities, real options.
- Finance for senior managers — capital structure, valuation, M&A, capital allocation.
- Marketing and customer strategy at enterprise scale.
- Operations and global supply chain for strategic decisions.
- Leading change — culture, politics, resistance, transformation pace.
- Corporate governance — UK Corporate Governance Code, board committees, NED role.
- Digital and AI strategy — what changes and what does not in product and operating models.
- Ethics, sustainability and the UK regulatory landscape.

- Applicants without a Bachelor's may apply with seven years' senior professional experience and a portfolio of leadership outcomes.
- IELTS 6.5 overall (no band below 6.0) for non-native English speakers — board-paper drafting demands fluent English.
- A personal statement, two references and an interview; a 500-800 word research proposal where the dissertation route is chosen.
Why Study at LSCT
The London School of Commerce and Technology (LSCT) is a specialist higher-education provider based in central London and part of Harold International College. We teach in small cohorts so every student is visible to their tutor, run a single intake schedule that students can rely on, and partner with UK professional bodies so qualifications carry weight with employers. London puts Whitehall, the City, Silicon Roundabout, the Royal Courts of Justice, the West End and the NHS estate within a short tube ride of every classroom — and our students use that proximity in their projects, placements and graduate job hunts. For MBA students that means board-simulation panels staffed by UK chairs and NEDs, FTSE HQ visits and CMI chapter dinners.
Assessment Approach
Assessment on the MBA in Strategic Management uses board-simulation panels, written strategic studies and a substantial capstone — often a real engagement with a sponsoring employer. Students leave with a folder of board-ready strategic documents and a record of defended decisions modelled on the kind of decision-making they will be paid to deliver next. Module structure is confirmed at enrolment.
