Diploma of Arts in Sociology

Diploma of Arts in Sociology at HICL

The Diploma of Arts in Sociology is for people who want to take seriously the questions that other subjects skim past — how groups behave, why institutions persist, where inequality comes from and how social change actually happens. It is academic in tone but practical in usefulness, and it suits anyone heading into social work, policy, charity work, journalism or public-sector careers.

It is not a CV booster wrapped in a degree title. It is a real introduction to how sociologists think.

Why sociology earns its place

Read a newspaper article about housing, migration or youth unemployment without a sociological framework and you get opinion. Read it with one and you start to see the patterns underneath. The Diploma of Arts in Sociology trains that habit of mind — an ability to look at a social phenomenon and ask what structures, histories and incentives produced it. Whether you go on to formal research or not, that habit pays.
