Does the Diploma of Computer Applications teach programming?

Not as a focus. It is about practical computer applications — the productivity tools and basic data and collaboration skills that everyday office work assumes. Programming sits in dedicated computing courses.

Will the Diploma of Computer Applications qualify me as an IT professional?

It gives you a strong office IT foundation rather than a professional IT qualification. Many graduates use it as a launchpad before taking specialist IT certifications or further computing study.

Is it suitable for complete beginners?

Yes. The diploma assumes no prior IT experience — it is designed to bring beginners and returners up to a confident working standard.

Can I study fully online?

Yes. The Diploma of Computer Applications is particularly well suited to online and asynchronous study.

What kinds of jobs does the diploma support?

Office administrator, data-entry operator, customer-service representative, sales-support assistant and junior IT-support roles are common.

How long does the diploma take?

Duration depends on pace and mode and is confirmed at enrolment. Most students complete it within a focused period of a few months.

Diploma of Computer Applications

Diploma of Computer Applications at HICL

Almost every office job today is - beneath whatever else it claims to be - a computer job. Spreadsheets, shared drives, mail, calendars, video calls, basic data clean-up and a steady stream of online tools form the actual working day. The Diploma of Computer Applications is built for people who want to be properly competent at that everyday computing layer, rather than guessing through it.

This is a practical diploma, not a programming course. The aim is fluency with the tools businesses actually use, and the confidence to learn new ones quickly.

The Quiet Career Tax of Weak Computer Skills

Workers who avoid spreadsheets, fumble shared documents or panic at a new tool quietly slow their entire team down. Over a career, that compounds. The Diploma of Computer Applications fixes that early - by getting you genuinely comfortable with the productivity tools, basic data work, file management and online collaboration patterns that the modern office assumes.

Who This Diploma Is For

School leavers planning office or admin roles.
Career changers from non-office backgrounds needing solid computer literacy.
Returners to work whose IT skills feel out of date.
Small-business staff wanting structured training rather than ad-hoc YouTube learning.

The Diploma of Computer Applications also serves as a confidence step before moving into more specialised IT or computing study.

How the Diploma Is Delivered

Applied exercises in spreadsheets, documents, presentations, basic data tasks, online collaboration tools and file management form the bulk of the work. Online study is well suited. Module structure and intake calendar are confirmed at enrolment.
